Anyone know of a plugin that can send sms's or does mobile text messaging?
I need to write an app that sends alerts to selected cell numbers.

I am not aware of such a plugin,
but first you must specify how you want to do this?
- over a SMS-Gateway from the internet
- over your own real mobile phone
- over a modem
That would be different approaches.

Sure, nice to have.
But as long no developer jumps in, you may use one of the services on the net.
There are some service which only need the internet-access comand or even there is a SMS-service which use a email-interface.
For example: http://www.smsout.de/
Of course not free.
You may google for 'sms gateway' to see masses of services.

Also, phone plans vary throughout the world. MANY people in the US do NOT have text messaging included in their cell phone plans and will be charged if you send them a text message / SMS. I have heard many stories of parents being charged hundreds and even thousands for the misuse of text messaging by their children.
So, if you do develop something, keep that point in mind.

Gents!
I have found away to send SMS using a Dos command prompt application & service this can be use to create a function to handle the Dos prompts. I recommend because i found it easy follow th instructions on the site. I recommend you run this hidden when calling for the command Works 100% very well. Try is out if you need code let me know! You must sign up for an account SMS Service is well priced.
