report designer help

Postby yanzco » Tue Oct 13, 2015 10:30 pm

im really having a hard time trying to properly indent or arrange how the report designer would print

i want to print 3 text/field

problem: the 2nd field doesnt auto changes size depending on what the data it contains..
which the 3rd field covers up the 2nd if the 2nd has too many data on it..

1st should be center aligned
2nd should be left aligned ( and the size should change depending on how much data is inside)
3rd should be right aligned ( and moves down as the 2nd gets bigger)

1st contains simple text and variable datas..
the 2nd contains a lot of data transfered from neobook to a variable..
ex:
1pc keyboard @25 = 25
2pc mouse @15 = 30

then the 3rd contains the
total : 55
change : 10

etc..

like a receipt..

Without having an example to play with it's difficult to tell you what to do. However, you might need to place the fields (or the ones you want to auto-size) on a partition. The partition should size vertically as needed.

If you can supply a sample report and database, I can probably make a more specific suggestion.

heres the .dbr file..

https://www.mediafire.com/?bgg8h1w6ap5xbhh

i kinda got it to work a bit..

i was not using partitions before..
now i got i to work by using data header, data body and data footer..

now my problem is, instead of having it all fit in 1 page.. it shows a lot of pages in the dbpPreviewReport
i tried to tinker a bit, iand i think the data body is messing something up.. since it is the one that is repeating in the preview report..

ps: inside of [repotext] is just

Code: Select all
   x2 BUFFET 350
           :350  ea                  :: 700
   x1 BUFFET 365
           :365  ea                  :: 365
   x2 BUFFET 2000
           :2000 ea                  :: 4000

Can you supply a copy of the mdb file too? I can't test the report without it. I don't need all your data, just something to test the report.

Thank you for supplying the sample report and database. Relational databases can be very complicated to work with - especially ones created by someone else. I can't tell from your sample data and report what exactly you're trying to accomplish, but here is some general information:

In the report designer, you should not use the database ID in your field names. The ID has no meaning in report designer since only one database can be used in a report. So, instead of [TheMinindalDB.Transactions.TOrderNumber] your should just use [Transactions.TOrderNumber].

You can use NeoBook variables like [repotext] in a report, but they only work when the report is run from a NeoBook publication. When run from report designer the variable will be empty.

The report designer's partitions are designed to display database data, rather than random text from NeoBook variables. The partitions expand as needed based on the database data. You could try placing everything in a single text box in report designer and see if that doesn't display the data correctly.

Unless you want a report based on the entire database, perform a query and sort your data before running the report.

hello a really late reply here..

but i abandoned printing my own store copy files..

but as ive already purchased an epson tmt82 printer now..
im wanting to really make the report designer to work..

but i just cant get it to work..
image of the report designer file..
http://imgur.com/fJeIrQG

those in data header worked fine..
but in databody
the variable [repotext]

it successfully acquired the data in that variable..
but the problem is, the report designer, preview, displayed, 4 pages..
page 1: data header partition and data body partition..
page 2-3-4 repetitions of [repotext]

so, when i tried to delete the data body partition..
the print preview just displays a blankpage..

sonow i tried another way,
i just leave data header empty.
and put all the things i want to be printed in data body partition

and again, print preview shows 4 pages.. all repeating what is inside data body..

- im stuck and confused..

edit: im using 80mm dimension
but i think its not because of the paper size, because the print preview already shows multiple copies..

edit 2: i noticed, only the data body is being repeated.. 4 times.. hence 4 pages.. should supposed to be only once..

leaving only text fields..

and it works..
