trying to send mail automatically from Outlook using sendkey

Postby dpayer » Thu Mar 13, 2014 9:01 am

I am attempting to send an email automatically from my app. It will be in an corporate environment of Exchange/Outlook (no SMTP).

I can create the email readily but the only way I can send it off that created email is via a sendkeys {altDN} s {altUP} to the outlook.exe app. The problem is that when the Outlook app is up and running, the sendkeys doesn't always go to the new email window, I think it is going to the main app. It works if the email is created when Outlook is not running.

I am attempting to use the application action of CloseApp in NB.

It asks for the Application ID or the File Name. Using the filename: outlook.exe it doesn't appear to close the app (gracefully or otherwise).

I know I can find the Process ID. Is that the same as the appID? I could just kill the process using taskkill after getting the PID from the tasklist.

Has anyone else found a way to send a message from Outlook (uses the default Exchange server)? I attempted to use Hans-Peter's MAPI tool but it didn't send so I think I have to research configuring for MAPI use.

Insights appreciated.

Thanks, but CDO uses SMTP to send. Outlook talks directly to the Exchange server with a proprietary method of connection using Windows based security.

I think I will just kill the Outlook app at each point I need to do this and then launch the email using internetlink. At that point I can use the automated sendkeys to send it off. I am just a bit reluctant to kill off the app for you never know what people are in the midst of doing.

Thanks!
