Hi dec,

I am interested in this plugin, but I have some questions..

One about the strength of it, I know there is no bulletproof system no one can crack it, but I believe that protection/licensing systems should have a reasonable level of protection, so, do you use a worldwide standard for it or just you made your standard ? , and if there is an evaluation process we can do to ensure that your standard (if you use it) reach the reasonable level of protection as I said.

Your words in help file make me believe that if somebody try crack or reverse engineer my publication when I use npCust plugin, it will not be as the same level of risk when he try to do that when I use npReg plugin in my publication.. is that right ?

The other question is about the future of this plugin and if there is a chance to add more functionalities like trail mode , built in day count ( for subscription based publications ) ,, etc..

Finally you just do a great job dec , keep it up,

Abdullah

Hello Abdullah,

Firstly thanks for your interest. Let me to explian a bit. This plugin implement some Partial Serial Number Verification System. It's possible to found some information around this in the web. The only npRegs task is to generate the appropiate serial numbers, based on the provided user name (that can be divided and then concatenate various user data like name, email, phone, etc.) and the only npCust task is to check if certain serial match (is valid for) the provided user data.

The plugin is divided in two plugins, npCust and npRegs, but you never need to include the npRegs plugin along your publications, in other words, npRegs is for the publication keygen, and this publication is for you and only for you. So you no need to call any action from this plugin in the publication that distribute, but here you use the npCust part of the plugin. The plugin do nothing more and in fact are not plan to add more features at this time.

Don't missunderstand. I can add new things to npCust, but, in principle, not related by "trial times", "expiration checks", etc., because this thinkgs are out of the npCust plugin scope. This routines, whatever you wanted and complicated like you wanted, is your job. npCust (with npRegs) only can generate serial numbers and check for valid serial numbers and maintain a list of expired serials. Basically this is the scope of the npCust plugin.

What strong are npCust? I think the problem is not with the keygen. In other words, it's difficult to obtain an universal keygen, and, when a cracker do it (if can) you also can change the used "base number" or just change the "data matrix" in order to invalidate such keygen. So, in my honest opinion npCust do their job more or less appropiately, but, of course, this not mean that you publication cannot be cracked.

In what way? Well. I'am not an expert in this questions, but, probably depend of the interest in your publication. Probably anybody can create an universal keygen but maybe can act in the compiled binary to change certain things that "pass around" some check routines, for example. You need to think that practically every software can be cracked. You can check for the most important software companies and look for their software... cracks.

I don't know if this can help you in some manner Abdullah. If you need more information don't hesitate to ask me and again thanks for your interest. ;)
