More Icon Resolution

Postby Ferdari » Wed Oct 07, 2009 7:10 pm

i always have the same wish when compiling apps, i think the apps i compile looks OLDER with the pixelated icons and NOT PROFESSIONAL, the people who use my apps made with NB thinks that this could not work on Vista or SEVEN because the icons of the Modern Systems have hi res icons 128x128, 256x256, and they tinks my apps are older.

Neobook must put more attention on this, all apps made with neobook looks like a Windows 95 or 98, by the icons.

We want more res(128x128, 256x256, 512x512) on the icons of the compiled pubs

Sorry about my english.

I'll certainly add this to the list of things to look into for the future.

I would have never thought to judge an app's age or Vista compatibility by looking at it's extra large icon. Who knew?

I think this is an important update. The icons really look pixelated. The NB main app doesnt look pixelated (desktop).

All the best,

Never had any client ask about (or even mention) the applications icon!

But, It could be that most of my software is "In-House" use and not public distro.

"IN-House" meaning a wireless ISP with 800+ clients, 3 Admins and a HOST of other users, several Law Firms, 2 rental stores and 3 Insurance agencies.

I don't write software for the general public ( games, utilities, etc) except for a few exceptions.

Because of the way NeoBook exes are currently created, space must be allocated for icon storage ahead of time. The space affects all pubs regardless of what icons you include. What new icons sizes are needed?

48x48x4 bit?
48x48x8 bit?
48x48x24 bit?
48x48x32 bit?

128x128x4 bit?
128x128x8 bit?
128x128x24 bit?
128x128x32 bit?

256x256x4 bit?
256x256x8 bit?
256x256x24 bit?
256x256x32 bit?

512x512x4 bit?
512x512x8 bit?
512x512x24 bit?
512x512x32 bit?

I have over 20 shareware titles available, with over half a million downloads, and I have NEVER had anyone care about what the icon looks like.

Which icon are we talking about? The one that shows on the button in the tool tray and in the program title bar? My icons look great there.

I think the only place the larger icons show up is in Windows Explorer.

The NB main app doesnt look pixelated (desktop).

The largest main NeoBook icon is 48x48 32-bit.

I think the 48X48 32-bit will be excellent update.

Btw, I was saying about the icons on Desktop and Windows explorer indeed. The other places look great (medium/small sized icons). The problem is when using shortcuts in desktop or in windows explorer.

48x48x4 bit
48x48x8 bit
48x48x24 bit
48x48x32 bit
plus the current ones.

I dont think the extra large icons (128X128, 256x256 or more) are really needed.

Just an opinion.
All the best,
