Forum Moving to New Server

Postby Neosoft Support » Mon Aug 13, 2007 3:28 pm

We'll be moving the forum to a new server this week. Hopefully this will greatly improve the site's responsiveness. The forum may be temporarily off-line for a short time while we make the move.

Forum is up and running on new server and appears to be working well. Speed seems to be much improved over the old server, but time will tell.

Speed seems to be fine this morning.

But after forced to relogin, now my viewed messages does not get marked as readed.
Neither viewing the message nor 'mark as read' does remove the 'new messages' icon in front of the forum-areas.

Oops, after restarting the browser, the icons now show all as read.
But now I have to relogin each time.

Edit: Maybe it is because of this URL: http://66.11.229.241/forum/index.php

Hans-Peter,

I can confirm this behaviour. Automatic login doesn't work any longer and the marking of read/unread topics doesn't as well.

It takes up to 48 hours for a domain name to propogate around the world once it's dns is changed. Using an ip address allows you to access the site until this propogation takes place, since it is assigned to the box immediately.

I can't see why that would affect the logins or read/unread problem, but more than likely it does. The forum script is probably still setup for neosoftware.com.

Things should be back to normal in a few days, I would guess.

In the meantime, the forum screams along for me. Much improvement since yesterday when it took 2-3 minutes to load. :)

I venture that the cookie setting property of the forum expects a specific host name and not a IP address to be set correctly.

If the IP gets named with a specific name (forum.neosoftware.com) etc then I expect it would work right.

Now no more IP is visible, but it still does not remember/store the autologin.
Also marked as read still does not work.

I only had to login once ... when the url changed to 66.11.229.241 ... after that, I get logged in automatically ... and yes the response is fast.

I seem to recall we had the login problem before. I believe we solved it by deleting the forum cookie.

I have tested on a Win2K and a WIN XP box.
On both I delete all cookies from neosoftware.

On both it fails to create a new cookie.
It works on all my other programming forums.

I've made a change to the forum configuration that should solve the log-in problem.
