Odd Behavior...

Hi all,

I just installed a program on the client machine.

Client has a local lan with several machines, running XP.

All works fine... except the new data is not saved on the database.

On my computers, all works fine, and the data is saved.

Could be a user privileges limitation ?

If yes, how must I do in order to solve the problem ?

Thanks in advance,
David de Argentina

Hi David,

I'm not a networking expert, but I know that each machine in a LAN must have privileges set to access data on the host machine. These privileges can be set by an administrator on the host machine.

I would have your client contact their IT department to make sure these permissions are set.

Is the database located on the host or on the workstation?

Hi..

What database you using. Check if some ports are closed in the switch or router or what ever is used.

David de Argentina:

a) What is the database ? ... Access ? ... MySQL ? ... other ?

b) Where is it located in the Client environment ? ... some network drive ?

c) Where is the exe (of the publication) located ?

d) What command is used to connect from your exe to the database ?

e) Try and put a dummy command in your publication that writes to a .txt file on the same folder as the database file ... if it does not write, network security could be an issue ... if it does, database security could be an issue.

There isn't anything built into NeoBook that can do this. You might be able to do something with VBScript, but I haven't tried it.
