Is it possible to embed a pdf file in a NeobookPDF publication?

1. If so, does this protect the pdf file from being read using the Adobe Acrobat Reader?

2. If not, how do I protect the pdf file from being read using the Adobe Acrobat Reader?

You can embed a PDF file in Neobook but it must extracted to be viewed. Moreover, Neobook's PDF plugin does not itself display the file. It relies on the Adobe PDF Reader which must be installed on the target machine.

Without offering perfect security, you could try this:

1) Extract PDF from Neobook program to an obscure location.
2) View the file.
3) Erase the extracted file.

Added later: Of course, this technique won't work with read-only media such as CD-ROM. See the next message for another idea.

Another way of disguising your PDF file to make it difficult to use with Adobe's Reader is to change the file extension. Instead of Filename.PDF, rename the file to or extract it to Filename.BOB (for example) and execute
Code: Select all
pdfOpen "[PubDir]Filename.BOB" "Rectangle1"

Neobook's PDF plugin doesn't care what the file extension is (or even if the file has an extension). With a different extension (or no extension), Window's file associations won't apply and your user will have to work harder to read the file with Adobe's Reader. Use this idea with the Extract-View-Erase sequence mentioned earlier.
