Hi Friends,

Feel free to read this, perhaps i didn't know how to explain my self in English.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entity-relationship_model

I think that can be done with sql script lenguage but i'm not sure.

On the other hand please forgive my ignorance.

Thanks all.

The database plug-in will support a variety of database engines, such as MS Access, Oracle, MySQL, etc. So the answer to questions about entity relationships and relational databases depends on which engine you decide to use. If the underlying engine supports a feature, then most likely the plug-in will too.

Any ETA on when the new database plugin will be ready? tested? etc. I'm very interested from what I've heard about it.

The new DB plug-in is still under development. It's turned out to be a much larger project than we had anticipated which means it's taken longer to develop than initially thought. Hopefully, we'll be able to being testing by the end of next month.

Dave, will the new DB plugin support SSL connections for remote databases using MySQL or similar web based databases?

In theory, you should be able to access a remote database. It depends on figuring out the connection string required by the server which is surprisingly difficult.

Dear Neosoft

I want to know if by any chance we right now would have the plugin's any news this month.

Dispense bothers, it is the anxiety.

Thank you very much.

We still have quite a bit of work to do on the plug-in, so I can't give you a release date yet. Hopefully, I can provide a more accurate estimate later this month.

For information about what a connection to a remote database will look like go to Google and search for "ado connection string". The plug-in will can automate much of this for local files, but accessing remote databases may require a little expertise.

Relational Database?

Postby TMcD » Wed May 02, 2007 5:31 pm

Dave,

Will I be able to do some relational database stuff?

I hope I'm not misguided in my own understanding...

I want to be able to link thinks together.

Example:

Flower -> Rose -> Petals, etc.
Petals -> Flower -> Rose, etc.

I want to start keeping track of data and ohter items related to that data. (and then be able to go deep into the related data.)

Troy

P.S. I'm sure this is just a matter of programming, because I bet someone is going to say that the DB plug-in can already do that (with a work-around.) :)

Dave may not have his component ready yet, but I wrote something a couple days ago that could be considered for both existing DBF files from NB and future MDB / SQL / ODBC.

At the bottom of this post is a concept of having NB use ASP files to be an intermediary for a database. It would be globally accessible and Client Server based in orientation.

Give me your opinions:

I could set up a DBF file as an ODBC on one of my servers for testing. Maybe we could collaborate on this.

Still working on the new database plug-in. The goal is to be able to start beta testing by the end of May. Simplifying some really complex database functions, and adding a report module have turned this into a very big project. I apologize for the extra long development time.
