MS Access driver trouble

Postby HPW » Thu Dec 12, 2013 4:24 am

Hello,

I have an app using latest DbPro and ODBC-driver (V 12.00.6423.1000) from MS with a ACCDB file.
On a second PC (also a WIN-XP) an error pops up 'Unknown database format' (translated from "Nicht erkennbares Datenbankformat 'S.\......\.....accdb')
This was happening after a coworker edited the ACCDB with a new Access. (Before it was only converted and not edited)
Checking the differences between the both PC it shows that the ODBC driver was 12.00.4518.1014 which is 2 years older than 6423.
So I tried to update an go to the MS download site and donwload the AccessDatabaseEngine.exe for access 2007.
But whats that: this installer installs only the version from 2006 12.00.4518.1014
On my first PC I could not find a newer installer.
So what drives MS to offer a newer version in 2008 and then roll back to the older release today? Bad.
In Google you can find texts with both versions so it was definatly there in the past.

It sounds like editing the database in the newer version of Access changed the file format. It may be possible to open the database in Access and export it to an older .accdb version. Then don't allow users to edit the database in Access anymore.

Otherwise, maybe this will help:
