Install a driver with .inf and .sys file

Postby Alex » Thu Dec 09, 2010 7:55 am

Hello,

I have a .inf and .sys file and I would like to install the driver with Neobook, so I use the run command with cmd but it doesn't install it. It is very strange because when I install it manually (control pannel, add hardware...) it installs correctly.

Is there a way to install my driver with Neobook?

Thanks

try this cmd:

rundll32.exe syssetup,SetupInfObjectInstallAction DefaultInstall 128 c:\my_driver.inf

make sure that .inf contains correct path to .sys driver
p.s: but I don't know if it works...

I see that .inf file should be correctly rewritten in order to install properly by calling a dll-procedure. as I can see, it's pretty old. I can try later, but no guarantees, maybe you should ask on specialized forums?

so, here we go:
the problem - incorrect file paths in inf sections.

open inf, find this section and make path correct:
[SourceDisksNames]
1=c:\full_path_to_throttle.sys

because filename like this (without path) means WINDOWS system drivers directory here, but not current path where both files belong to.
[SourceDisksFiles]
throttle.sys=1

or just copy both inf and sys files to windows/system32/drivers and:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection PortIO 132 c:\full_path\throttle.inf

at least, system really tries to install this... anyway, I dont know is it going to work or not ) maybe inf should be rewritten totally for proper installation.

Hi,

Thank you for your answer.

I don't understand, it doesn't work. What's very strange is that works if I install it manually (control pannel, add hardware...) but with command it doesn't work.

Thank you
