Embedded exe Getting "File does not exist" error

Hey everbuddy

I have a few embedded files. Txt, RTF, Dat and an exe. All are embedded using the same options to extract to [PubDir]. Every embedded file extracts perfectly except the .exe file. I continue to get "File does not exists" error. I know without a doubt the file is embedded into the compiled program. It works right until I compile it. Then it's no-go. I am using NB version 5.0.3. I have tried removing the .exe and then embedding it once again. The confusing thing is that all other files extract without any problem. I have tried to extract it into another directory with no luck. I know it is embedded because the final compiled prog is somewhat larger than the one without embedded exe. I am out of thought on how to make this happen. I would truly appreciate any suggestions on how I might get the file to extract.
I can compile a Setup using a setup compiler and have it to add the file, but it just kinda' bugs me to have an option and can't use it.

I thank you

See this post ... http://www.neosoftware.com/forum/viewto ... ight=embed ... for discussion about problems with embeding files with an extension of .exe ... and suggested workarounds.

Thanks for the link

Hey everbuddy

Does embed now. I just took of the .exe off my file and embedded it and then extracted it as file.exe and it worked.

I thank you

In explorer options:

Uncheck the toggle with something like:

Don't show extension on known filetypes

(Could be different since I translate from my german XP)

Then you will see the extension in explorer and could edit it with F2.

In windows explorer, that would be Tools|Folder Options|View tab. Tick show hidden files and folders.

Robert,

the registry key is this one:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ Advanced\HideFileExt

The values are

0 Show extensions
1 Hide extensions

My system is windows 2000, but i think this should be the same in xp. I could not test it jet, but perhaps you could tell us if this will work without reboot.

Regards
Klaus
