NeoSoft Corp. has released NeoPaint version 4.6b. Registered users of previous versions of NeoPaint 4 can download a free update patch for version 4.6b from the following web site:

Follow the instructions to download and apply the update patch.

This update contains the following:

*When using the Rectangle or Elliptical Selection Tools, you can now fine tune the selection using your keyboard's CTRL and ALT keys in combination with the directional Arrow keys. Pressing CTRL plus one of the arrow keys will move the selection up, down, left or right across the picture one pixel at a time. Pressing ALT plus one of the arrow keys will expand or shrink the size of the selection one pixel. Add SHIFT to either of these key combinations to move or size the selection an amount equal to the current Grid settings. Modifying the selection in this manner only affects the selection rectangle and not the actual picture.

*Included a patch to prevent the “Error while unpacking program, code LP5.” problem that appeared when attempting to run NeoPaint on PCs with a utility called “Pest Patrol” installed. Evidently, a recent update to Pest Patrol, which is included with anti-virus software published by AOL and Computer Associates, contains a bug that interferes with the security software used to protect NeoPaint. (A number of other software vendors also reported problems with Pest Patrol.) The company that makes NeoPaint’s security software released an update to work around the Pest Patrol bug which was implemented in this update.

*NeoPaint’s floating palette windows (undo history, stamp pad, etc.) are now hidden whenever another application moves to the foreground. Previously, under certain circumstances, NeoPaint’s palette windows could sometimes appear on top of other applications.

Another wish for the selection tool:

When I drag the selection rectangle the status bar is updated like this:

0 x 0 > 100 x 100 - W=101 H=101

So we know numerical where we drag. So far good.

With the new arrow-key-combinations I would like to see a similar display showing the current status of the selection rectangle:

0 x 0 - W=102 H=101

This should be updated on each arrow-keypress.
So I can reach a numerical target in size and position.

Good idea. I will add it to the list.
