General questions about using NeoPaint

I'm no artist so this is probably another dumb question.

How can I create a sense of perspective? I want to create a logo that looks like a lake or ocean with the blue water extended out into the distance. I've played with making the further blue darker using gradients, but it looks unprofessional and hoakie. Any other suggestions?

Artistic questions are sometimes difficult to answer, because what looks good can be different for everyone. However, my suggestion would be to try using a real photo of the ocean as the background for your logo. You could then type text on top of the image or apply a special effect to the photo to make it look more interesting.
