Can NB send text messages to a phone?

Postby Enigman » Fri Aug 21, 2015 1:47 pm

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a way to send text messages to a phone from inside a NeoBook pub? (Not AppBuilder)

I have an event timer program and I would like the option to send a phone text in the background as an alert.

Thanks.

Thanks Stu,

However, anything paid such as a service is not an option for a donation-ware application unless we are talking about a "paid once" plug-in for NB.

I thought I had seen something to do this a while back, but ...

I don't know if anyone would be able to offer a text service for free as it costs something to send them I think.

Follow-up: It's not that easy to find a SMS service that is not completely geared to large volume marketing via SMS. However I did find one that has a free level account for up to 500 messages per month, and they have HTTP remote call syntax that is possible to use.

The website is https://www.eztexting.com/. They have developer information for the HTTP call here: https://www.eztexting.com/developers/sms-api-documentation/http

The syntax of the call is as follows:
Code: Select all
Example call:
https://app.eztexting.com/api/sending/?user=USERNAME&pass=PASSWORD&phonenumber=PHONENUMBER&subject=SUBJECT&message=MESSAGE&express=1

Parameters
User (Required) - Your Ez Texting username
Pass (Required) - Your Ez Texting password
PhoneNumber (Required) - 10 digit phone number to send message to
Subject (Optional) - The subject of your message up to 13 characters
Message (Required) - The body of your message
Express (Optional) - Use Express delivery method when sending message value = 1. To send Standard Delivery set the value = 0. If you leave this parameter out your message will default to Express Delivery.

Note: Values must be properly URL encoded

I haven't tried this out yet, but I figure I could put a browser object off stage and build the URL in the program code, then send it to the browser object. They do send a return code with the results but I haven't figured out how to trap that yet.

I'll post more after I try it.
