Animated Gifs

Postby ajhunt » Tue Aug 04, 2015 4:01 pm

Hi, I'm trying to play 4 animated GIFs at the same time but after playing 2 the whole system goes slow. Does anyone know if there is a way to play 4 animated GIFs at the same time. They are only 200x200 pixes each. Thanks for any help.

Hello,

>>They are only 200x200 pixes each.

I have no hint for the problem, but only 200x200 is not really a small Gif.
Updating 800x200 pixel with a good frame-rate is a serious task and cost cpu.
Maybe flash could be an option.

Hello,

I just read an articel that many people (like apple) are against flash because of security concerns.
So maybe adobe gets pressed to stop its support.
Youtube use HTML5 for video display.
Just some thoughts.

Anthony:

1) Do these images have to be this large ?

2) Do they have to be displayed at the same time ?

3) Can you describe in detail what function the animated gifs perform in your pub ? ... or if available, provide link to them so we can see the details ?

4) Did you create these gif files (perhaps from individual static images) ?

5) Have you tried displaying them (at the same time) in an html document ? ... does the system slow down ?

Oh c'mon... past century maybe
just played 10 200x200 1Mb+ gifs without any problems, everything played smoothly and cpu (i5) usage has never exceeded 2%

ajhunt, what's wrong with your gifs? or system specs?

so why don't you post here your project and gifs, so anyone could play it and share results ? (you may create empty project with any gifs reproducing the slowdown on your system). Then we will see if there really are any problems.

Ok can play any 4 animated gifs when a new pub so must be something i'm doing not liked. I'm having 4 objects (animated gifs with variables as filenames) off screen and moving them on screen when needed. I'll have to work on that then as neobook no problem with 4. Another question then, is there a way to have a transparent .png onto of a animated gif? I've tried having that animated gif within a webbrowser object but same result - the animated gif image underneath stops where the overlay is. I don't think it can be done but have to ask if anyone achieved doing it. Thanks in advance and thanks for all the help given so far. Best regards. P.S. This is the same for when playing video files the same thing happens.

Each GIF runs in its own thread, but the CPU does have limitations on how much it can do simultaneously. I was able to run 15 small GIFs at the same time and they seemed to all play normally as far as I could tell. The problem may be with the size and complexity of your GIFs, but it's impossible to tell without seeing them.

Thanks Neosoft Support - thae animated gifs are taken from a photo booth and are normally 600x400 pixels so I think thats where the problem lies. Thanks for you time and explaination, appreciated.
