Windows 10 upgrade - browser problem

I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (with default Edge browser). When I try to run my Neobook application I get an error message saying: Requires Explorer 4+

What do I need to do now to get the application working and will my users be faced with the same inactive browser problem?

(?) I thought they were keeping IE... Or, what version of IE is on?

They do keep Internet Explorer along with Edge browser, but apparently the user has to make some sort of selection in the control panel... I haven't figured it out yet. But I know my Neobook app users won't be bothered.... they'll probably just close the window and forget it.... The new browser was going to be called Spartan but they renamed it Edge so they could use the same 'e' desktop icon.....

For some inexplicable reason, Microsoft decided to change how the IE version is detected in Windows 10*. We're planning to release a minor update to NeoBook shortly to correct this issue.

Microsoft has to come out with an Edge Browser Object for developers... and real soon, because the IE object doesn't seem to work with Windows 10.

In other words, Microsoft Windows 10 just killed all existing Neobook apps that use the browser object. What a shame. I see this as equivalent to book burning, not progress at all...

Need independent browser engine? There were some Chromium plugins.

We should be able to get it to work. There are hundreds (maybe thousands) of programs that use the IE browser component. Disabling that component in Windows 10 would be a huge disaster. I doubt even Microsoft would make a mistake that big.

They have made some big mistakes and fell behind three years in the touch tablet industry. The only thing that saves them is a recent (a few days before the release of Win 10) malware vulnerability in Android .... over a billion smart phones can be hacked with a simple text message.... I wonder if that was part of a marketing sabotage... business as usual... lol

the forced IE Edge emulation in the Windows registry should work - but it doesn't (unless I am doing something wrong)

I stopped working on my Neobook application for a few months in anticipation of Win10.... I had a gut feeling it was not worth doing any development until the final release. I guess I was right....

A user just reported the first issue with the browser object in windows 10. Claims it won't print an html page stored locally. Hope a fix for this comes shortly.

A preliminary NeoBook 5.8.6 update patch to correct Windows 10 browser problems can be downloaded using the link below:

Recompiling your pubs with this version should fix Windows 10 issues. Please post your results here.

Release notes for v5.8.6:

 Made several modifications to the Web Browser object to correct compatibility issues with Windows 10. Problems were primarily caused by NeoBook incorrectly detecting the installed version of Internet Explorer due to changes in Windows 10. Also, removed the confusing “IE7 Compatibility Mode” option. The browser will now always attempt to use the installed version of IE.

 The [WindowsVer] global variable now returns the correct version numbers for Windows 8.1 and 10. (Note these are the internal version numbers assigned to each Windows version by Microsoft. For example: 5.1 for Windows XP, 6.0 for Vista, 6.1 for Windows 7, 6.2 for Windows 8, 6.3 for Windows 8.1 and 10 for Windows 10).

 Added [WindowsVerName] global variable which returns the published name of the installed version of Windows. For example: “Windows 10 Home”.

If no further Windows 10 problems are reported, we'll officially release the update later this week.
