It sound like your PC doesn't have a program association for the .msg file type. You can manually set a file association, but the steps are different depending on what version of Windows you're using.

More info here:

The association is right. Clicking a msgfile, the outlook starts and shows the msg.
The alert is: the command-line argument is invalid. Check the command.
My command is:
Code: Select all
SetVar "[datei]" "[amt40.dokumente.Ordner]\[amt40.dokumente.Betreff][amt40.dokumente.Dateityp]"
Run "[datei]" "" "Wait" "" ""

The content of the variables is :
amt40.dokumente.Betreff=Untis-Stundenplanprogramm_KLA
amt40.dokumente.Dateityp=.msg
amt40.dokumente.Ordner=j:\Abteilung 3\Aktenablage\40-02-13_13\Stundenplanprogramm_Untis
datei=j:\Abteilung 3\Aktenablage\40-02-13_13\Stundenplanprogramm_Untis\Untis-Stundenplanprogramm_KLA.msg

Maybe i'm blind, but i do not know what is wrong.

Hi overthere,

Try to open the .msg file with the WebBrowser Object.

Greetings from Buenos Aires,

fieldhopper:

1) When you say ...

The alert is: the command-line argument is invalid. Check the command.

... can you tell us which program is popping this error box ? ... your NeoBook program or the Outlook program (that is trying to display the contents of the .msg file) ?

2) If you go to ...

Control Panel >>> Folder Options
Tab: File Types
Select the entry for MSG
Button: Advanced
Select: Open
Button: Edit

... can you copy/paste the value of "Application used to perform action" ?

I don't have Outlook on my PC, but for the PDF file, it shows ... "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" "%1"

Also try ...
Code: Select all
SetVar "[datei]" "[amt40.dokumente.Ordner]\[amt40.dokumente.Betreff][amt40.dokumente.Dateityp]"
Run "[yourApplicationName]" "[datei]" "Wait" "" ""

... where [yourApplicationName] is the value you found in (2) above.

Tell us if this worked.

Finally, since the file name has folders (that are separated by backslashes), try and place ! mark everywhere you have such values ... so NeoBook won't try and do a division on the values.

You might try surrounding the file name with quotes like this:

SetVar "[datei]" "[amt40.dokumente.Ordner]\[amt40.dokumente.Betreff][amt40.dokumente.Dateityp]"
Run "[#34][datei][#34]" "" "Wait" "" ""

Also, it looks like your file name [datei] is derived from a database. Are you sure that this file name points to a physical file on your hard drive rather than data stored in the database?

The command works with other programs liek excel, word, pdf really good. Only the **** happens with outlook ( :( MS :( )

@ gaev

The message comes from outlook.

Now i have the next results from testing.
Outlook has to be startet. The Neobookprogram open outlook and then shows a message:
the command-line argument is invalid. Check the command.
So i believe the parameters may be wrong. The question is how to send the parameters to outlook.

this web page might provide a clue to the issue you are experiencing ... looks like you need an additional /f switch on the command line.

1) see if this works ...
Code: Select all
SetVar "[datei]" "[amt40.dokumente.Ordner]\[amt40.dokumente.Betreff][amt40.dokumente.Dateityp]"
Run "[yourApplicationName]" "!/f [datei]" "Wait" "" ""

... where [yourApplicationName] is something like c:\program files\microsoft office\OFFICE11\outlook.EXE.

2) if this works, try ...
Code: Select all
Run "[datei]" "! /f " "Wait" "" ""

... in your original code.

Post your results here.

I just tested and you can open a .msg file from an actual command line. So, instead of "running" the .msg file, "run" the cmd.exe and use the .msg file as the attribute

@dpayer
Without testing your answer, it is right. By double click on the msg-file in the explorer outlook will open the msg-file. No problem. But in neobook it do not work.
@ gaev
The result was the same error :roll: .

By the way, i'm using outlook 2010.

Not sure if you are saying that "it did not work" or that "you found documentation that it is not supported".

On this page, it says that /f is supported.

You might (first) just want to experiment with ...

- a .msg file on your C:/ drive
- hard code the .exe and .msg file names in your Run command

Also, the referenced page has some tips about using a shortcut ... perhaps your NeoBook application could run a shortcut (with the /f switch).

Another way to bring the problem on a right way is to only view the msg-file, but i don#t know how. Is it possible to view a msg-file with neobook ?
