App interface with NB

Postby datadon » Tue Jul 29, 2014 2:43 pm

Almost thought I should put this question in the NextGen section but will try here.

I'm looking for ideas on how to interface a smartphone app with Neobook. Not necessarily the new Nextgen app but any app. In particular an android app.

I know of a few possible ways but would like to see what is out in the forum on this. The app would be very simple. It would push a button and if the button is pushed it would do something in a Neobook application. I'm looking for something fairly fast (like seconds if possible) but not nanoseconds.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Don

Hello,

Since NextGen is targeted to underlaying HTML 5/Javascript, you will have the possibilitys of that standards.
So your nebook app becomes a web-app.

Don:

I'm looking for ideas on how to interface a smartphone app with Neobook. Not necessarily the new Nextgen app but any app. In particular an android app.

The app would be very simple. It would push a button and if the button is pushed it would do something in a Neobook application.
AFAIK, this not possible ... Android Apps run under the Android OS (duh) ... Applications created with current NeoBook product run under Windows.

Generally, Apps communicate with server based programs (php, java, asp, ruby, python, perl etc.) via http calls ... but Applications created with current NeoBook product can not be initiated via http calls from another computer/phone/tablet ... they run client side NOT server side.

I'm looking for something fairly fast (like seconds if possible) but not nanoseconds.
Apps can send http requests to server side programs and receive responses in seconds (in most instances).

Remember that an App is not that different from web pages that communicate with php etc. programs ... because an App is composed of the same HTML/CSS/Javascript ... Web Apps reside on a server and are called just like the web pages ... native Apps reside on the Client side Device.

I know of a few possible ways but would like to see what is out in the forum on this.
Do share your ideas with us.

No, I know they are not on the same communication protocols etc. No direct talking. I guess I was more thinking of someway to bridge the two interfaces.

An app like this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.controlanything.NCDTCPRelay

Can interface to a relay board like this:

http://www.relaypros.com/Relay/Relay/ANDROID_RELAY-STANDARD#.U9j7UPldVBl

Then we need a way to interface with the contacts on the relay board which I think has been done via NB.

Also this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Relmtech.RemotePaid

Just wondering if any other ideas or concepts out there.

This is possible.

I use an Android App (Quiz Night Buzzer System) that interfaces with Neobooks.

BUT.....i have one issue with it......it only uses 20 buttons!

Martin

Thanks for that info. How did you do the interface?

What do you mean by 20 button limitation? A NB limitation or Android limitation?

Thanks
