activeX interface / problem with WIN7 :(

Postby impulsmedia » Tue Feb 12, 2013 1:55 am

Hi there,
for a customer we developed a interface for a signature pad within a NB application ( http://www.topazsystems.com/products/siggemlcd1x5.asp). For implementation we used the plugin MatActiveXHost. Everything works fine under XP but now the client wants to migrate to WIN7 ... and the signpad-application only runs with admin rights. We proofed different WIN settings but without success.
So does anybody have a idea/hint what may cause the problemand which rigths to set? Due to the kown problems we didn´t install our own program in the folder program files as well as the .OCX file
Thanks a lot for your help.
thanks in advance and greetings from Germany,
Walter

Hello,

It's a common "problem" when migrating a program from Windows XP and prior versions to Windows 7 and later: these later versions of Windows did not allow to programs to write in folders like "Program Files" or other "system drive" folders. You necesary need make some changes in the program in order to save their configuration data, for example, into a more appropiate directory, like "AppData", "User Documents", etc.

I don't know the plugin you mentioned, so it's possible that the "problem" are not in the plugin (which never need to write in these kind of system folders) but in your publication. So you need to take a look at them and find every possible attempt to write into the mentioned folders. I think this is the right way and not to try to execute the program as an admin user or something else. Hope this can help you in some manner. ;)

Edit: If you need to know all system special directories like "User AppData", etc., my npInfo plugin can help you.

A simple solution to access the user's AppData folder can be found here: http://www.neosoftware.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20810&p=11215751#p11215751
